Tuned-percussion
Hazel
is based in Edinburgh and is a trained classical
percussionist who plays the extended tuned-percussion
instruments ie, vibraphone, marimba - which
will make an ideal compliment to the un-tuned
percussion of Stuart.
Hazel is not averse to the more funky non-classical
rhythm side of things too! Hazel works with
her band, The Bathers, and has performed
and recorded with the one and only Liz Fraser
(Cocteau Twins). Hazel is also an excellent
vocalist - in fact she sometimes leads vocals
whilst playing the kit at the same time,
an unusual skill indeed!

Stuart
plays regularly with his own band and also
with Horse and has just finished recording
a film score with David Byrne. He is classically
trained on drums and percussion and has
a degree in electronics and music. He then
went on to study Jazz at Berkeley in Boston,
USA. Stuart plays across a wide range of
genres, including latin, jazz, rock and
dance. He has a particular interest in using
electronic drums and samples in the context
of live contemporary dance music. Tamsin
comments:
"Stuart
is an extremely proficient and innovative
player in many genres. He is in great demand
for his versatility and proficiency."

Working
as a DJ, Producer, Cellist and pianist -
Alan records as 'Sidewinder' for Fenetik,
the leading leftfield dance music label
in Scotland. From a classical background
Alan found himself drawn to hip-hop, house,
reggae, and also jazz while at music college
and began making electronic music a few
years back. He is now considered one of
the most innovative producers on the leftfield
dance jazz scene. Tamsin has this to say:
"Alan
is the perfect foil for this project as
he is very able and is comfortable working
with live musicians. He can compose and
score (and conduct if necessary!) live music."

guitarist, singer-songwriter
Christopher
(otherwise known as the James Orr Complex)
is a guitarist and singer songwriter from
the Scottish indie/rock/acoustic scene.
He records on Rock Action records, which
is Mogwai's label and it is Mogwai's Stuart
Braithwaite who asked him to record for
them. He played support for Will Oldham
(Bonny Prince Billy) and Smog, so fits well
into the acoustic scene. He is very interested
in Brazilian music. Unlike with so many
bands in the indie world, which only work
as a 'unit', Chris performs solo as well
as with his other rock band Eska. Tamsin
writes
"Christopher
is up and coming on this scene and highly
rated. He's from Edinburgh but his family
are all from Skye and Harris. He plays in
a gorgeous fingerpicking style on acoustic
and electric guitars and he's got a lovely
voice."

Alyth is a gaelic singer who is rooted
in traditional song and mouth music but
who explores her music in a very contemporary
way while retaining a respect for tradition.
She has also worked a lot with different
producers in more jazz/pop/dance fields.
Read more about her and her work on www.alyth.com.
Tamsin says
"Alyth
knows a great deal about mouth music - the
rhythmic song originally sung
with no real narrative or language for dancing
to. I think this will add a
very interesting dynamic to the project."

am really keen to see what he makes of the
Brazilianrabeca."
