The
History of Brazilian Popular Music
The Brazilian Embassy in London has produced
a special web site telling the story of MPB
in English and Portugese. Written by Ricardo
Cravo Albin, the site provides a good introduction
to the history of MPB from the 18th to the
21st century.
The site can be found on this link: http://www.brazil.org.uk/mpb/indexen.htm
Asian
Dub Foundation
When
we brought the ADF to Brazil in 2001, they
were in the middle of a campaign to release
an asian warehouse worker from prison. They
won the campaign last year, and Satpal Ram
was released. They have not lost their political
zeal, however, and their latest CD "Enemy
of the Enemy" is full of politicised
lyrics. Read about their concerns and their
music in this recent interview in the Guardian.

We've
arrived!
On 26 November we had a taste of what is to
come. Warmed up by whisky and rum, the launch
of the Brazilian - Scottish edition of MPB-BPM
included the first public musical encounter
in the project - Alfredo Bello and Alan Bryden
played together, accompanied by the percussionist
Gustavo Souza.
